For first time guests, we think the best approach for everyone is to use a booking service. Among other things, this gives you the confidence that we are who we say we are. You’ll have the backing of Airbnb or Vrbo to know that when you send money, you will actually have a condo to stay at. We never (NEVER!) recommend using services like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist to find or rent your vacation in Breckenridge. Please only trust reputable booking sites to send your hard earned money.
Why does SkiBreck recommend Airbnb for Breckenridge rental?
We have hosted on Airbnb, Vrbo, and Homeaway for many years for hundreds of Breckenridge rental guests. While Vrbo and Homeaway were pioneers in the condo rental market, Airbnb has made big strides in customer service and their app and website are by far easier to navigate. But, ease of use and a friendly customer service agent aside, the real reason we recommend Airbnb is their guest-focused model.
During the Covid pandemic-related closure of travel in 2020, Airbnb set out to do the right thing for guests. Airbnb refunded guests 100% of their reservation fees – even those without travel insurance. While many Breckenridge hosts complained, SkiBreck was 100% on board with this and even advocated for it prior to Airbnb’s decision. It hurt to lose rental guests during ski season, but it was the right thing to do. If you booked with Vrbo, you lost your service fees and probably your deposit, too. Airbnb saves guests money, Vrbo does not. To us, this seems like a no brainer. And it is why we prefer and recommend Airbnb over all other hosting sites.

Airbnb Plus
A few years ago, SkiBreck was asked to be one of the first Airbnb Plus rentals in Breckenridge. Airbnb is an invitation-only program where exceptionally rated rentals with premium features and amenities are asked to join the program. An Airbnb representative visited Deer Lodge in 2017 and walked our home, verified that we met all requirements (things like premium bedding, extra pillows, comfy furniture, plentiful towels), and photographed our home. After a lengthy review, SkiBreck was accepted as one of the very first Airbnb Plus Breckenridge rentals.
But we didn’t stop there! We continue to improve every year…
- Eco-friendly water (filtered Brita water vs. disposable plastic water bottles)
- New linens (with old linens donated to animal shelters)
- A pledge to only have premium toilet paper (don’t laugh – you know it’s important!)
- Frequent furniture, appliance, and hardware updates (along with donating and recycling whenever possible)
