Vrbo (aka HomeAway) was a pioneer in the short term rental business, and we have been part of the Breckenridge Vrbo community for many years. While many of our guests book through Airbnb, we are happy to help guests that prefer the Vrbo platform.

Why Vrbo?
Vrbo offers many condo rental options in Breckenridge and has been in the game for many years. One of the huge benefits for guests when they book through Vrbo, or similar booking sites, is the security that they are renting a real condo from a real person and when they arrive at their destination they will actually have an accommodation. Craiglist and Facebook Marketplace similarly have may listings for rental condos and houses, but neither of those companies offers any sort of guarantee and neither of them do any vetting at all for the people listing condos for rent. I am sure there are plenty of people that have had success with Facebook and Craiglist, but many have had their money taken and no place to sleep when the get to their vacation spot.
How does Vrbo vet hosts in Breckenridge?
I can’t speak for all hosts, but I know for me personally Vrbo has collected a number of things to make sure I am real. Driver’s License, tax ID, date of birth, home address, and bank account information are just some of the things that Vrbo collected from SkiBreck when we signed up for hosting with them several years ago. In addition, our Breckenridge Vrbo rentals have real guest reviews from guests that have booked through Vrbo giving them – and you – peace of mind that others have booked and had a great stay with us.
Vrbo or Airbnb?
I have my personal opinion on who has a better website and mobile app, and I also have some feelings around which company did a better job responding to cancellations from the Corona virus. But at the end of the day, we are happy to work with your preference. If you were to ask me which I recommend, I would vote in favor of Airbnb. But you’ll find us open for business on both platforms.
Do you offer direct bookings?
Generally speaking, we only offer direct bookings to repeat guests, family, friends, and others that we know through a family/friend connection. We do this for a few reasons:
- We don’t like asking people to give us money until they know us. As mentioned above (re: Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist), if you don’t know who someone is we for sure don’t want you to send money to them. That goes for us too. Vrbo gives you the peace of mind that we are the real deal, and your reservation is backed by a multi-billion dollar company.
- Our condos are our family homes. By booking through Vrbo, SkiBreck has a similar protection from damages. We love and visit our homes frequently and would be devastated if someone we don’t know destroyed our home.
That said, once we all know each other we would love to assist directly – and we have done so for many guests. The benefits of direct bookings are generally a discount of somewhere between 10-20% over Vrbo since you will not have to pay their fees (and neither do we).
